On Tuesday
April 23rd we had a seminar on the theme ˝Games at Language Classes“. The
seminar was held by teachers Maive Salakka and Eve Unt. Nine teachers from 4
different schools of Võru County participated. Different card and board games
were introduced, some of them even played.
The
organisers hope that participants could get some new ideas how to make their
students listen to the other students better, to make them read, speak or write
without them understanding that they still have to learn but in a different
way, more naturally. Hopefully, some patterns are even remembered better if
revised for several times. Games help teachers to create context in which the
language is more meaningful than ordinary exercises are. The risks of the games
are also there, like making noise, but this is one part of learning, making
voice and trying to make yourself understood.
