Eve Unt and Maive Salakka's seminar

On Tuesday April 23rd we had a seminar on the theme ˝Games at Language Classes“. The seminar was held by teachers Maive Salakka and Eve Unt. Nine teachers from 4 different schools of Võru County participated. Different card and board games were introduced, some of them even played.

The organisers hope that participants could get some new ideas how to make their students listen to the other students better, to make them read, speak or write without them understanding that they still have to learn but in a different way, more naturally. Hopefully, some patterns are even remembered better if revised for several times. Games help teachers to create context in which the language is more meaningful than ordinary exercises are. The risks of the games are also there, like making noise, but this is one part of learning, making voice and trying to make yourself understood.

Form 7 Crosswords Competition

On Saturday, 13th April, a contest on solving  a crossword puzzle for the 7th formers of Võru County was held.

 All in all 65 students from 7 different schools were registered. The schools participated were Sõmerpalu Basic School, Kääpa School, Antsla Gymnasium, Kuldre School, Võru 1st Basic School, Võru Kesklinna Gymnasium and Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium.

Not all the students on the list of participants appeared but there were 29 teams competing. This time all the four first prizes went to the teams from Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium and the fifth one to a team from Võru Kesklinna Gymnasium.

1. First prize went to the team called "Tähestikusupp” (Marlene Kääpakaust, Miriam Leesalu), the teacher Tiia Raag.
2. The second award-winning team was called "Chocolate Bars" (Anna-Liis Mägi ja Kaari Kuus), teachers Ere Tumm and Tiia Raag.
3. The third place went to the team "Lõbusad viinerid" (Martti Saarme, Kaspar- Oskar Kramp), teacher Ere Tumm.
4. The fourth place went to the team called "Chop-chop" (Gabriel Müürsepp, Stella Mõttus), teacher Ere Tumm.
5. The fifth award-winning team was "Carrots" (Kristina Bianka Rantala, Kristin Munski), teacher Ingrid Kirk.

Many thanks to Maive for making the crossword,correcting answers and helping to score the points. Thank you, Maila, for ordering the awards. Many thanks to Tiia Allas, who helped in making result tables, taking pictures of our event and uploading the information on the website. Thank you, Mare and Võru Kesklinna Gymnasium, for finding facilities for our contest. I am also grateful to the teachers Tiia Raag, Ere Tumm, Mare Veiderpass, Ingrid Kirk, Jana Kalk, Hille Juss, Karin Hellamaa, MerlePaat and Maarja Tamra for helping to carry out the competition in the classrooms and correcting the answer sheets. What is more, thank you, teachers, for encouraging your students to participate as it is really hard to make them leave their homes on Saturday morning.
