Update on Centre's Library: New Readers Now Available

After the local educational reform in summer 2015, our library has been divided between two locations:

* at Võru Kreutzwaldi Kool's premises (Kooli 7, B-wing, room B22) you can find materials for elementary and lower-secondary levels, Year 9 exam materials, textbook sets, homereading library for the younger readers (adapted  and easier teen fiction), general foreign language teaching methodology books and some materials for teaching Russian, German, French and Finnish;

* at Võru Gümnaasium's premises (Seminari tänav 1) you can find materials that are suitable for upper-secondary students and advanced language studies, also the library for homereading books (classical and modern fiction).

You might want to check our catalogue for further information, including the details from which building to find the materials that suit your needs.

NB! The abbreviation  PK means  `põhikool´ in Kreutzwaldi Kool's at Kooli 7 and

                                      G stands for `gümnaasium´ at Seminari Street 1

Information for Form 7 Crosswords

Dear everybody,

The registration to the form 7 crossword competition is closed. I am happy to inform you that 32 teams from 11 schools are going to participate.

There are a few thigs I'd like to remind you about:

1. Students should bring their own dictionaries.

2. Everybody is expected to take a change of shoes / wear indoor shoes.

3. The contest lasts for two hours, from 2 to 4 pm. There should be one teacher in each classroom and when the time is over, the answer sheets need to be checked so all teachers whose students are participating are asked to be present and help with it.   

Also, we need help with teachers. As the VKRK's teachers have to attend a compulsory seminar at the same time, we need 6 teachers to sit in the classes while the students solve the crosswords. Anyone willing to give us a hand, please contact me in advance.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday, 7 April at 2 pm at Võru Kteutzwald School. The rooms are on the second floor (according to the English system)

Call for Form 7 Contest

Dear everybody,

The last contest, crossword for form 7 students, takes place on 7 April in Võru Kreutzwald School. It starts at 2 p.m. and lasts for two hours.

Call for registration: Speech Contest

Dear everyone,

The annual Impromptu Speech Contest of Võru County for upper-secondary students will take place on 17th February 2016 at Võru Gümnaasium (Seminari tn 1, Võru).

The registration deadline is 10th February and here's the link where you can register your students:

A quick reminder of the process:
* the students will be divided into pairs (by means of lottery)
* each contestant will have individual topic (also displayed on screen)
* each contestant will get 1 minute to prepare (even take notes if he/she wishes)
* each contestant will have 3 minutes to discuss his/her topic as a public speech
* the opponent (the other student of the pair) listens carefully and prepares some questions to ask from the speaker (may take notes; asking questions is a MUST!)
* the speaker tries to answer the questions as well as he/she can
* the opponent is the next speaker, the speaker will become the opponent
* the previous pair is followed by the next pair
NB! The time will be indicated all the time (preparation, how much time left for speaking).

Heads-up: IMPROMPTU SPEECH COMPETITION

Dear all, 
 
Our next competition is meant for the gymnasium level students and takes place on 26th February in 2015 at 14:00 in Võru Kreutzwaldi Gymnasium. 

Registration is due 23rd February 2015. at ruthtalmet@hotmail.com
 
Description of the contest: 

The students will be paired up and Student A picks a topic that s/he has to talk about. 
S/he has 1 minute to prepare/organise his/her ideas/thoughts and then the student has to talk on the topic for 3 minutes. The other student, let's call him Student B, has to listen to Student A carefully as he (Student B) has to ask at least 3 questions (max 5 questions) from Student A. When the questions are asked, the whole procedure is reversed and now student B picks a topic and has 1 minute to prepare and 3 to talk on. Of course, then he is questioned by Student A.
 
The topic will be displayed on the projected screen so that the audience and the judges can look at them and think along.

Form 6 Quiz last details

Dear all, 

Just to let you know that registration is finished for Saturday. 

We have 27 teams. The teachers who registered, would you ask your students to come up with a team name as well. You don't have to send it in but be ready to write it down on Saturday.

The quiz starts 10:00a.m. and takes place in Võru Kreutzwaldi Gymnasium, 3rd floor. I'll put up team locations on the front door.

Tõlkevõistlus gümnaasiumile

Head tõlkehuvilised gümnaasiuminoored, võõrkeele- ja emakeeleõpetajad!

Elva Gümnaasium kuulutab välja 3. ülevabariigilise gümnaasiumiõpilaste tõlkevõistluse, mille  eesmärk on võõrkeeleoskuse kõrval väärtustada ka väga head emakeele valdamist.

Osalema on oodatud kõik eesti keelt emakeelena kõnelevad gümnasistid, kes õpivad inglise, soome, vene, saksa või prantsuse keelt ja kes tunnevad huvi ilukirjandusliku tõlke vastu. Sel aastal kutsume osalema ka vene keelt emakeelena kõnelevaid gümnasiste – tõlkima üht eesti kaasaegse proosaautori teksti vene keelde.

Võistlus toimub  20. veebruaril 2015  Elvas Puiestee tn 2. Töö algab kell 11.00

Tõlkida on kaasaegsete inglise-, soome-, saksa-, vene- ja prantsuskeelsete proosakirjanike tekstid (või tekstikatkendid), mille pikkus on 800-1000 sõna.
Tõlke kirjutamiseks on aega 5 tundi.
Tõlkimisel võib kasutada kaasa võetud sõnaraamatuid, ÕSi ja internetiallikaid.
Tõlketöö vormistatakse arvutil.

Žürii hindab tõlke täpsust, autori stiili adekvaatset edasiandmist, keelelist korrektsust.
Igast keelest parimale tõlkijale on välja pandud autasud.
Võitjad tehakse teatavaks 2. aprillil 2015 Elva Gümnaasiumi pidulikul konverentsil „Meediakõnelused“, kus esinevad tuntud ajakirjanikud – Elva kooli vilistlased.

Võistlustöid hindavad Terje Loogus (TÜ, saksa keel), Kajar Pruul (ajakirja Vikerkaar toimetaja, vene keel), Anti Saar (tõlkija ja kirjanik, prantsuse keel), Kersti Unt (TÜ, inglise keel) ja  Eva Velsker (TÜ, soome keel) ja Igor Kotjuh (kirjanik, eesti keelest vene keelde).

Hello everybody,

The quiz for 6th formers will take place on 7th February. It will start 10:00 in Võru Kreutzwaldi Gymnasium. Let me know how many groups will participate (3 students in one group) by 2nd February (to my email - ruthtalmet@hotmail.com). If you already know the students' names, then please do send in the names as well. It will simplify the registration process. Don't forget to add the school name and the teacher's name.

8th Form Translation Competition RESULTS

The annual 8th From Translation Competition was held on 4th December at Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium. The event started at 10.00a.m.till 1.00p.m. Differently from previous years, the students were typing their translations and they could both paper and online dictionaries.

There were 24 participans from 11 different schools (Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium, Võru Kesklinna School, Võru I Basic School, Parksepa Secondary School, Kääpa Basic School, Antsla Gymnasium, Rõuge Basic School, Krabi Basic School, Varstu Secondary School, Vastseliina Gymnasium and Kuldre Basic Scool).
