Annual 8th form translation competition

The annual 8th form written translation competition for Võru County's students will be held on December 2, 2012 at 12 o'clock in Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium's Conference room.

Please register your students by November 30  by sending an email to Maive  at maive@hot.ee or maive.salakka@gmail.com with the participants' full name, school's name and English teacher's name.

November is foreign languages' month in VKG - secondary school team quiz (23 November 2011)

The second foreign languages team quiz for secondary school, which was held on 23 November 2011, was even more popular than the one held the year before. This time, there were 23 five-membered teams (advisably made up of students who study different languages) who tested their language skills and demonstrated their knowledge of the cultures and countries where the aforementioned languages are spoken.

The questions were asked orally in 5 different foreign languages - English, Russian, German, Finnish and French, which can be studied in our school. For each language it was possible to get 10 points, altogether 50 points maximum.

November is foreign languages' month in VKG - basic school team quiz (21 November 2011)

Our annual  foreign languages team quiz for basic school, which was held on 21 November 2011, was as popular as ever. This time, there were 15  four-membered teams (advisably made up of students who study different languages) who tested their language skills and demonstrated their knowledge of the cultures and countries where the aforementioned languages are spoken.

The questions were asked in writing in 4 different foreign languages - English, Russian, German and French, which can be studied in our school. For each language it was possible to get 10 points, altogether 40 points maximum.

Evi Saluveer’s seminar

On 18 November at 1pm Võru county English teachersonce again gathered to Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium to listen to  Evi Saluveer’s seminar on British culture teaching titled "When in Britain, Do as the British Do". The presentation was also on the EATE's 2011 summer seminar's agenda in Pärnu.
During the seminar, we covered the typical aspects of British culture and what being British is all about, the issues of  and with small talk, do-s and don't-s of successful communication and how to behave in a pub. The theory went hand-in-hand with practical tasks which were in turn visualised and humored with video clips. 
Thank you Evi for a wonderful seminar! We learned a lot!

Annual Internet quiz for forms 9-12

Dear everybody,

Due to unexpected technological problems on 10 November, the Internet Quiz did not work out as we planned. We apologise for any inconvenience.

As interest in the competition was high, we have decided to give the students another chance.  The quiz will be held on 17 November at 20:00 on our blog's page. Like always, the students will have 2 hours to find the answers from the web. This time the answers should be emailed to our centre's email vkglanguagecentre@gmail.com.

2nd Drama Festival for forms 4-9

We're writing to invite you, dear teachers of English, to participate with your students (forms 4-9) in
our 2nd annual Drama Festival at Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium on Nov 26, 2011.
 
As the purpose of the event is to bring some difference into everyday classroom work, we're looking forward to seeing different genres - jokes, sketches, short plays. The performance should be between 3 to 20 minutes long.

We would already like to hear from those interested in participating by Nov 1, 2011 - name of the school and teacher. If you already have some more information about the form, approximate number of students participating and the  length of your performance, it would be helpful as well. 
Any feedback on last year's festival is also welcome.

Ruth's seminar on 12 May

On 12 May at 14.00 in the afternoon English teachers met at Võru Kreutzwald Gymnasium to hear about Ruth's visit to Exeter. Ruth compared her experience with what Eve told us in March, gave a very detailed account of where she stayed and what her days were like. She also shared the tips she had been taught on how to use poems and texts in language classes and offered the teachers firsthand experiences in testing out some of the activities. 
It was a lot of fun! Than you, Ruth!

Form 7 Crossword Competition

On Saturday, 9 April 2011,  there was a new and exciting competition for the 7th formers. In 90 minutes, the pairs of students had to do crosswords which consisted of 100 words. The contestants were given a down-and-across crossword, explanations of the words in it, Estonian-English and English-Estonian dictionaries. 

There were 15 teams from 7 schools.

The best of the best were:
